Wave Blues Band at The Venue
Moffat-based blues band Wave are set to play The Venue in Dumfries on Saturday 8th October 2016.
The band offers a vibrant, up-tempo feel which is strongly influenced by the Chicago, Detroit electric blues in the 1950’s and 1960’s era. Their full line up consists of Brian Thomson on lead guitar and vocals, Dave Dryfe on blues harp, Frank Frame on rhythm guitar and bass, and Ben Jerrett on Drums.
Their expansive repertoire covers numbers by the great legends such as Sonny Boy Williamson, Jimmy Reed, Muddy Waters, Lightning Hopkins, Eddie Boyd, Robert Johnson, Blind Willie McTell, Wille Dixon ad John Lee Hooker, along with more contemporary artists including Cyril Davis, Alexis Corner and J.J.Cale.
The authentic sound which is created by the band is reminiscent of the blues clubs in and around London in the 60’s where Brian Thomson (lead guitarist and founder of ‘Wave’) played regularly at the Ricky Ticky club with his band Inc.Sunday Combo, backing Sonny Boy Williamson, Jimmy Reed and Muddy Waters who were on a UK tour.
Predominantly a blues band, they contrast this with several original compositions which have a strong Spanish, Bossa Nova influence, demonstrating their versatility and adding to an already exhilarating repertoire.
Wave are already well-known in parts of Dumfries and Galloway, playing regularly at the Buccleuch Arms Hotel Moffat and the Old Well Theatre, along with other venues around Dumfriesshire.
They play at The Venue, Dumfries on Saturday 8th October from 8pm until 11pm. Tickets are £5 and will be available on the door.
