Three D&G blues acts included on Jock’s Juke Joint CD
A new Scottish blues compilation album has been released, and it features three Dumfries & Galloway acts on its track listing.
Jock’s Juke Joint Vol 4 centres around a fictional bar, and includes eighteen of the best contemporary Scottish blues artists.
Started in 2012, this is not the first time that local bands have featured on Jock’s Juke Joint. Now disbanded local acts The Yahs and Earl Grey and The Loose Leaves have both previously appeared. However, this will be the first year that local acts have featured so heavily. In a testament to the strength of the local music scene, D&G acts make up three of the eighteen tracks.
Different acts, Dumfries & Galloway roots
Redfish, with members hailing from both Dumfries and Cumbria, appear with their track, ‘Immaterial Man’. It showcases their soulful blues style, with impassioned vocals from Stumblin’ Harris, accomplished guitar from Martin McDonald and frenetic organ from Fraser Clark.
Acoustic singer-songwriter Stoney Broke appears with his track, ‘Got It’, which is a tale of the first meeting of two lovers. The track shows off his excellent bluesy voice and relaxed guitar style.
Finally, Chasin’ The Train appear with their stomping cut, ‘Temporary Man’. Written by vocalist Tom Cuddihy, the song erupts into a blues rock juggernaut, led by Howlin’ Bob Clements’ screaming harmonica and powerful slide guitar from Rory Nelson.
Three very different tracks by three very different artists, but united by their Dumfries and Galloway roots.
Released on the 24th of November, the CD was successfully launched at a very special gig at the award-winning Edinburgh Blues Club. The evening included live performances from both Stoney Broke and Redfish.
