STS’s Highlights of 2018 – #1: ONR.
With 2019 just around the corner, we thought we would look back on some of our highlights from the Dumfries & Galloway music scene during the past 12 months.
We think it’s fair to say that the D&G music scene is probably stronger and more lively now than it ever has been, and most certainly over the last 10-15 years.
We recently started compiling a weekly social media post on a Monday with our Top 4 recommended gigs of the week. With every post, we are absolutely spoilt for choice. There are just so many active musicians and venues in this region.
One of our standout gigs of the year was ONR., who played at The Venue in May. Our review of the gig will tell you why we thought it was so good, but let’s take a wee minute to think about what a year it has been for ONR.
He’s played at BBC Music’s The Biggest Weekend, been heralded by BBC Introducing, toured America, and has managed to release two absolutely banging tracks – ‘Love in Suburbia’ and ‘American Gods’. He’s just announced that he’ll be touring with Bastille next year too. Admirably, he never forgets his roots and is always genuinely thankful for the huge amount of local support that is given to him.
We’re so excited to see what 2019 holds for ONR. He’s an asset to our local music scene, and he is an excellent example of what can be achieved if you work hard enough. And it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
A worthy highlight of 2018 not just for us, but no doubt for many others too.
We’ll post our next highlight tomorrow, and we’ll post them daily right up until the 1st of January.
