‘Soul Divine’ single by Alex Maxwell: A Review
On the 14thof December 2018, Dumfries singer-songwriter Alex Maxwell released his new single, “Soul Divine”.
The arrival of Alex’s tracks has been much anticipated by both his followers and the team here at Small Town Sounds.
Alex Maxwell has been a well-known face on the Dumfries music scene for a number of years. as well as having played many shows both in Edinburgh, where he launched his last single “The Want Comes In Waves” and in Glasgow, where he now lives.
The release of “Soul Divine” is what can only be described as an intelligent follow up the first release. What really stands out for us in this track is the captivating nature of the lyrical content. This in conjunction with Alex’s trademark story-telling style makes for a thoroughly thought-provoking listen.
Alex was fortunate enough to work with the Tinderbox Orchestra Quartet, comprised of Lissa Robertson, Hyunsun Yoon, Yvette Rosie and Tessa Moran. They have provided a beautifully nostalgic musical support for the song’s narrative and intricate guitar lines.
The track was recorded and produced by Mark Morrow Audio in Edinburgh. His previous work has been featured on most major BBC Radio stations. This collaboration of his experience and Alex’s song writing expertise may be a winning formula. Indeed, “Soul Divine” was selected as Track of the Week on BBC Radio Scotland’s Janice Forsyth Show.
Alex is a regular on the Glasgow scene, so he is not difficult to track down if you’re after a chilled out acoustic show in the city.
He has no immediate plans to play locally, but we’ll let you when he does.
