Redfish are bringing their monthly blues jam to The Venue in Dumfries

A brand new monthly event for blues music bands and fans will kick off in Dumfries next month.

Building on the success of the Old Fire Station live music events in Carlisle, Dumfries/Cumbria blues band Redfish are bringing their blues jam to The Venue. The first event will take place on Sunday 30th June at 4pm.

The band will perform a short set, then invite guest musicians and singers to join them on the stage for improvised live music. Band members will drop out where appropriate.

The format has already proved to be hugely popular with both audiences and performers. The element of pure spontaneity makes for an electric atmosphere.

Redfish co-founder and bassist, Rod Mackay, said, “When we started at the Old Fire Station, it was something of a leap of faith. But from the outset, people loved it. The monthly fixture has proved itself as a sustainable performing arts event, drawing a hugely loyal audience, and some brilliantly-talented guest artists.”

A wide range of musicians have featured in previous jam sessions, including guitarists, saxophonists, drummers, bassists, percussionists, keyboard and harmonica players, violinists, and singers.

Rod told us, “We know that similarly-talented musicians and singers from the Dumfries area will want to join in. It is brilliant fun for a full 3 hours on a Sunday.”

Admission to The Venue is £5 on the door, and free for contributing artists.

The Sunday Sessions have been planned for the last Sunday of each month. Dates confirmed so far are 30th June, 25th August, 29th September, 27th October and 24th November 2019.
