ONR at The Venue, Dumfries: In Photos
ONR made a welcome hometown return to The Venue in Dumfries last night, performing an electrifying set to an eager audience.
It’s been a busy year so far for ONR, with a huge number of gigs and festivals already performed and booked for the future. The whole band are now getting ready to play dates in Leeds, Bristol and Reading over the next couple of weeks, and then a slot at BBC Music’s Biggest Weekend in Perth. After that, they’ll be heading off on a seven date American tour in June.
All extremely impressive stuff, I’m sure you’ll agree. And it all started right here in Dumfries and Galloway.
ONR – who is Robert Shields accompanied by band members Mark Irving, Michael Devereux, Sean McCole and Chris McHenry – has achieved a lot since launching with his first ever gig at King Tuts back in July 2016. Now signed to American record label Capitol Records, there’s been three single releases – Jericho, 5 Years Time and American Gods – along with much press coverage and some major championing from Spotify who have featured him in several of their ones-to-watch playlists.
Live gigs are always energetic, with sets that feature no songs that you feel they’ve included just to drag the set out a bit. There are no fillers here, that’s for sure. Just quality track after quality track to keep the audience absorbed in the performance.
Last night’s support was provided by Ayr duo EDGR who were a surprise for most as they had not been widely announced. They performed a truly impressive set to open the night and that is something I don’t say lightly as I’ve seen hundreds of pretty mediocre support acts in my time. You should absolutely check EDGR out on Facebook. You can also check out the Small Town Sounds Facebook page and watch a couple of Facebook Live videos from last night.
To listen to all of ONR’s releases to date, get yourself over to Spotify now (or iTunes, I don’t judge).
In the meantime, here are some photos from last night’s gig…
