Music 4 Meningitis Returns for Farewell Gig
After four successful events, Music 4 Meningitis (known as M4M) will return for one final time.
The final Music 4 Meningitis gig will feature Ian Prowse & Amsterdam / Pele and Brian ” Nasher” Nash from Frankie Goes To Hollywood, alongside local acts The Lutras and Ward and Watson.
Organised by Chris Marsh, Music 4 Meningitis was started to raise awareness and funds for the Meningitis Research Foundation after Michael Pattie – a close friend of Chris – lost his son David to the B strain. Since that heartbreaking period Michael has raised over £300,000 for several charities through the local ‘Strictly’ events in town.
Keen to help further, Chris had the idea of putting on a gig at The Venue in Dumfries with the aim of raising more cash for the charity.
“Michael really inspired me to make a difference, however small”, Chris explained. “The gigs grew arms and legs and we have managed to attract the likes of The Wonder Stuff, John Power from Cast, Dante Gizzi from GUN, Nasher from Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and my good friend Ian Prowse from Pele and Amsterdam fame – without him I wouldn’t have been able to bring some of these acts to play at these gigs”.
Now a Scottish Ambassador for the Meningitis Research Foundation, Michael Pattie will act as the on-stage host for the event. He has fought tirelessly for the introduction of a vaccine for the B strain of the virus which is now available to children from 2 months old. This will have a life-saving impact for generations to come.
Chris added, “We have raised a total of £8,600 for several charities and I would love for us to top the £10,000 and go out on an almighty high!“
Music 4 Meningitis takes place at The Venue in Dumfries on Saturday 17th March 2018. Tickets are priced at £12.50 and are available from the Midsteeple Box Office or online via TicketSource.
