The latest act to emerge from the vibrant Dumfries and Galloway music scene is singer-songwriter, Ra.
Some of you may already recognise Ra, who is better known locally as Dumfries born Laura Currie. She previously fronted the acclaimed local band What About Wolves for a number of years, who went on to release a number of tracks, gain lots of radio airplay, and grace the stages of smaller music venues as well as larger festivals such as Eden.
After completing her degree in English Literature, Ra was launched.
Laura told Small Town Sounds, “Music is very important to me, but it’s had to take a bit of a backseat recently while I got my degree – It’s my main focus now, and I’m excited to see what that leads to. I like to write things that I find interesting as opposed to following any kind of template (especially lyrically), so I’m immersing myself in as much music as I can, from the weird to the wonderful. I’m hoping to end up somewhere in between!”
You can expect to see the release of a solo EP by Ra as well as a collaboration album with synth wave artist ALEX before the end of the year. Ra does not conform to a specific genre, instead working on a number of projects covering many different sounds.
Ra also recorded a live performance of ‘Strange Love’ with Circa 16 Sound Recording in Dumfries recently. You can check out the video in full below.
Ra has now been added to our pretty extensive list of local musicians on the site – have a wee read of her Band Profile here to find out more!
