Castle Douglas-based Frozen Shores will be releasing their new single, ‘Blood Box’.

‘Blood Box’ will be released on Friday 23rd of November 2018, and Frozen Shores (AKA Ruari Barber-Fleming) will be sharing some content in advance of the single release itself.

He’ll be sharing this on YouTube and Bandcamp, and it will include a couple of live performance videos with accompanying studio versions of the tracks. These tracks will be released exclusively on Bandcamp and will be downloadable for free.
Keen to keep them free for the public and available on his terms, Ruari will not be releasing them on the major streaming platforms such as Spotify and iTunes. However, ‘Blood Box’ will be available on these platforms (you can listen to it on Spotify here and iTunes here).

His first release is a song called ‘Behind a Smile’. It’s a particularly emotive one for Ruari.

He explained, “The first of these releases will be a song called ‘Behind a Smile’. Working/trying to work in the music industry is extremely hard and can be very disheartening at times. Over the last few years we’ve lost some insanely talented musicians because of mental illness, which is not okay. This song is my insight into the current working situation of many musicians, friends and artists that I know and admire.”

Of his single ‘Blood Box’, he said: “Blood Box is a song that did not come easy for me. I think I re-wrote it around 4 times! I just could not figure out a chorus that was as impactful as I wanted it to be. I remember playing it over and over in a rehearsal room trying to get it to work. Eventually it came together in a very rough version I had recorded onto my laptop. After experimenting with various different bass and synth sounds it finally started to sound like the song I had in my head. The particular struggle in writing this tune made it all the more gratifying when it was finally done.”

Frozen Shores began last year and has since released a number of tracks as well as live performances including Solfest, Dumfries Music Conference and The Enigma Sessions (which he co-organises with Tiderays’ Liam Russell).

Keep an eye out for his further releases via the Frozen Shores Facebook Page, and his single release on the 23rd.
