I would describe my music as… soulful country with a mix of bluesy folk.
Local singer/songwriter Kate Kyle has been performing locally and regionally for the past couple of years. A regular feature in the music scene, the 16 year old continues to delight audiences on a regular basis playing a wide range of gigs such as; charity events, festival of politics at the Scottish Parliament, Maidens of Music, Youth Beatz, Dumfries Arts Festival and the Coach and Horses. Kate was also lucky enough to be the supporting act for Emma Gilespie at the Cat Strand. This year Kate was selected to play at the Danny Kyle Open Stage for Celtic Connections.
As Kate continues to write and perform, she looks forward to the years ahead.
Plans for 2019
Kate is looking forward to a busy 2019. She told us, “In 2018, I have had some amazing experiences playing at various gigs such as; DMC (Frozen Shores Collective, ROUGH/CUT, Radio DMC with Hagen Patterson, DMC: Does Merry Christmas), The Enigma Sessions, Resonate 2018, Mermaid Bar, Park Fest Stranraer, Nithraid, Youth Beats, Eden Festival, Moniave Folk Festival, Parkgate Music Project, Coach and Horses, Brave New Words, Kings Coffee Shop, Alive Radio and the Wee Fringe at the Globe. I have also been lucky enough to receive the Maidens of Music award and recently I was awarded with the Culture Award at the Year of Young People Awards 2018. I am incredibly grateful for the constant support that I have recieved from everyone this past year and I feel very privileged to live in such a supportive music community. What I am most excited for this upcoming year is to release my first EP! I’ve been working with the insanely talented, Dave Miller at Circa 16 Recording Studio where I have recorded 5 of my own tracks. I’m hoping to have an EP launch early in the year which I am so excited for. I have been working with Dave on my songs for several months and what I imagined the songs to sound like are playing right back at me – I’m very grateful for Dave’s dedication and patience! I am also very appreciative to have had the both amazing Isla Gracie (fiddle) and Dave Bass (electric guitar, bass and dobro) to have played on the tracks. Working with Isla and Dave has been so good and their crazy musical expertise are mind blowing. Again, I am eternally grateful for the constant support. I have been given many amazing opportunities this past year and I’m SO excited to see what 2019 holds.”
