A new nightclub for Dumfries?
Dumfries could see another nightclub open its doors in the town centre after a planning permission application was submitted to Dumfries and Galloway Council.
The application, which was submitted on the 5th of February 2018, has requested a change of use from a shop to a nightclub at 9-13 Castle Street (the site of the former Poundstretcher shop). Plans propose significant renovation and investment to one floor of the building which will include a seated area including booths, two bars, a DJ box and a dancefloor.
The proposal has been met with three registered objections so far, and residents nearby have raised concerns regarding noise issues and antisocial behaviour.
However, many in the town have been supportive of the idea stating that it would be another way of drawing young people back into the town at night, encourage more people to spend money in the town, and could potentially provide another live music venue.
Full details of the proposal can be found on the Dumfries and Galloway Council website here. You can also register on the website and make a public comment either in support or objection to the plans here.
